There is no rigorous research on this, but most experts agree an antigen-antibody (AgAb) test (i.e. "4th generation") is conclusive 6 weeks after the last dose of drug. However, some experts advise 3 months. An often forgotten downside of PEP is that it prolongs anxiety after a high risk sexual exposure. Therefore, PEP should only be done following truly risky exposures.
