A member asked:

If a high risk hpv infection is cleared by the body, will it not be transmitted to another person for the rest of one's life?

If "high risk" types of HPV are treated by cryo or surgical excision, routine pap smear are usually required to monitor recurrence. HPV is contagious, and can be transmitted sexually. It can be reinfected with exposure to another with HPV, male or female.

Maybe/not. A normal persons immune system will usually clear the contagious stage within 2 years. It's potential to trigger cancerous changes remain through life. It rarely reverts to a contagious stage but might. There are also at least 7 high risk strains that can be acquired during sex that each have a timeline separate from any earlier strain.
