No, vaseline does not have antibacterial properties, may help in keeping the skin soft. In general best to abstain from using topicals on open wounds unless so recommended by medical staff.

Vaseline is used for dry and cracked skin and to keep wounds moist and covered .Prescribed and OTC antibiotics are used for infection control.
