Not so. Syphillis is not a common everyday germ like staph that is easily spread. It is spread during the mechanical activity of sexual intercourse in the sexual fluids. It is a germ that lives in a persons bloodstream or in active sores. It may have many differing symptoms. Don't have sex with that person & you should be fine.

Syphilis is spread by having anal, oral and vaginal sex. Blood transfusions and dirty needles also spread syphilis. It has been shown that kissing someone with a chancre can transmit it. Living in poor communities with poor hygiene can also spread this disease . Check who ever you live with for good health.

Hand shake or other casual contacts do not spread syphilis. Sexual interactions can, if one of the parties is infected. Active infection sites, e.g. chance of primary infection and skin and mucus membrane lesions of secondary syphilis are loaded with syphilis organisms and could spread through contact. If you have concern get tested. Wish you good health!
