My husband has high blood pressure, thyroid disease and an enlarged prostate, but he has a bad hemorrhoid, can he use prep h? it says to ask a doctor if you have these before using and he has all three, so he is concerned... advice needed! thx?

Would be ok, there are always exceptions, 1) High blood pressure , rectal stimulation can sometimes increase the blood pressure,.2) Thyroid Disease : again rectal stimulation can increase GI stimulation and increase gastric motility, stimulating the GI Tract secretions, that affect the Thyroid Axis ,3) Enlarged Prostate : stimulation of the rectum with suppository, can increase hormone level PSA

Prep H is safe if used as directed but has never been shown to be effective except as a lubricant. Analpram HC or similar ointment with cortisone would be safer and more effective. Of course, identifying the cause of the hemorrhoid flare and treating that (constipation/diarrhea) is the better approach. See a colorectal surgeon if no improvement in 5-7 days.
