A member asked:

I have a splinter in my thumb for a week,it is very small so i can't see it,that area pains when pressed but there is no other reaction or infection should i leave it alone?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, you could leave it alone and body will expel it in good time. If there is redness, pain, swelling or discharge from the site, apply triple antibiotic ointment to control the infection. If that does not help, it would be prudent to see a doctor. If you have not had tetanus vaccine in the last 10 years, it would be a good idea to get a booster dose of tetanus vaccine. Wish you good health!
