The younger the person the more likely is a rapid progression usually by the age of 40. I have seen very irregular astigmatism confused with keratoconus. An ophthalmologist is best to answer your question,however. People with keratoconus have to be careful of not rubbing their eyes forcefully or wear improper contact lenses.

There's no simple answer to this question as the progression of keratoconus can be very variable. Your ophthalmologist can measure your progression with keratometry but you may also have a good indication by the change in your vision.
