A member asked:

I got an mri report back that says there some tiny retroperitoneal lymph nodes, none enlarged. what does this mean? if they arent enlarged, why even bother putting them into the report? should i be worried about these and what they could mean?

All imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, mentioning negative findings is important to ensure that the issue was looked. Your results are normal. Wish you good health!

Lymph nodes are scattered throughout the body, which is normal. The retroperitoneal space is an area behind the peritoneal cavity, containing certain organs such as kidneys as well as vascular and muscular structures. If the lymph nodes are not enlarged than they should be considered normal. I would not be worried, and they're sometimes mentioned to let one know area has been examined.
