If you are not vaccinated, and the preceding cyclist has active COVID-19, since the virus is spread by respiratory droplets, the increased production of same by an exercising individual with air flow streaming behind him/her can transmit the virus to you.

Wearing a mask will reduce the likelihood. Keep hands clean and sanitize the bike after use. Maintain a distance of at least 10 feet will also help. Obtain the COVID-19 vaccine, discuss with your physician.
