I have a fingertip pulse oximeter at home, it usually reads 97%. is this normal or should it be 100%?

I find such devises rarely if ever read anything above 96=97%. They shoot a light beam through layers of skin to gain the reading. They are not equal to the testing dome on blood samples at a hospital.

Sounds like a normal oxygen saturation. Would recommend against random testing as possibly anxiety creating. If recommended to check by your physician make sure you have a reporting plan or alarm values in actual clinical context.

Your reading is normal. Do not use this unless you have a respiratory illness. If you are sick and it reads less than 90, go to a hospital. For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
