A member asked:

My brother, 53, had a cbd obstruction caused by a gallstone which resulted in the elevation of his serum alkaline phosphatase (alp). it showed as 1042 u/l. now that his stone is removed with ercp will alp value drop down and reach to the normal?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, if there are no other liver disorders, his ALP will return to normal in a few weeks. Wish you good health!
