Why does my left earlobe sometimes gets itchy and red, when i wear earrings? i only wear gold and silver, and i had my ears pierced decades ago. and why only one earlobe? thank you?

These are signs of contact dermatitis but it's puzzling why it only affects one ear lobe and not the other. Corticosteroid ointment should relieve the symptoms but they'll recur on contact with the offending ear ring.
