Since exposure to ultraviolet rays does speed cataracts, wear sunglasses when outside, and make sure there is substantial UV protection. One of our ophthalmologists can perhaps add more protective approaches.

Cataract is a clouding of the lens, that can be corrected surgically with an implanted intraocular lens. Cessation of smoking, lower cholesterol and diabetes management, are all critical preventions. Some advocate taking vitamins to reduce the incidence of cataract formation. Avoid trauma with safety glasses. Do not take steroids unless necessary. Avoid long-term intranasal or inhaled steroids-.
