A member asked:

I am on mirtazapine. trying to get off of it. went from 7.5 to 3.7 and am suffering withdraw symptoms. is that normal and when will the withdraw end?

It depends but go back to 7.5mg until the symptoms subside and try alternating between 7.5mg and 3.75 for a few weeks. Much of this depends on age and other medical issues and medications. Give each dose change 2-3 weeks.

I would be interested in what the withdrawal is exactly and why you are going off the mirtazapine. If you are going slowly enough you may just be feeling the original issue for which it was prescribed.

May need to go slow: Stopping the medication abruptly or reducing the dose too fast can lead to withdrawal. If you’re experiencing withdrawal and it’s interfering with your daily activities, then let your doctor know -- you may need to go slower. There is no universally accepted dose reduction strategy, so your doctor will decide on the best one after hearing from you.
