My son 2.5 years old for a week now he developed new tics where he wipes his hair onto his face then tongue with a vocal tic sound. called his ped and he said to give him some time. i spoke to ped and he said to wait. can this be normal?

Tics can be transient (up to 6 mo) or chronic (over 6mo) and many will fade. Persistence beyond the 6 mo mark often remain or expand into something more involved. There are few if any treatments available that make a difference in their eventual outcome.

His hair should be kept away from his face, since swallowing his hair may cause respiratory problems. His vocal sound may be shared during a virtual consultation, but since it is related to one action, avoidance is one possible solution. If he has vocal tics at other times of the day and with other activities, further evaluation may be indicated. Please follow up with your PCP.
