A member asked:

Accidentally looked directly at a bright sunset with contacts in. only for a few seconds. got sun spots for 15 min and then headache. fine now. can you damage your eyes from this?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Rather unlikely to cause permanent problems with a glimpse of a few seconds, but repetitive and prolonged staring at bright sunshine might be a problem. Some have had retinal issues from staring at an eclipse on a cloudy day without eye protection.
