I have hsv 2 and had for about two months and trying to figure out how i got it . before i had sex that day i had shaved and left myself cuts from the razor . could he have passed to me that way ? if he was having an outbreak already ?

The only way to catch HSV2 is to have sex with an infected person. Having shaved, perhaps you developed a more severe case than otherwise, but shaving wasn't the cause of the herpes. Also make sure the diagnosis is correct: skin infection following shaving (folliculitis) sometimes is misdiagnosed as herpes.

FYI. Genital herpes can be caused by HSV1 or 2. More than half of the cases are actually caused by type 1. Identification of specific type requires serotyping by blood test. HSV1 has been well known to cause fever blisters or cold sores and often found in saliva of majority of adults. Therefore, genital sore (blister) can be induced by self inoculation or by oral sex as well.
