A member asked:

Do those with deviated septum breathe in less air with every breath then those who do not have deviated septums?

The volume of air taken in with a breath is defined by the depth the diaphragm goes in the effort. It pulls air through whatever portals are available, the nose and or mouth to reach the volume needed by the body at the moment. A deviated septum has a minor if any impact on that effort/volume.

no they just breath in a greater amount of air through one nostril as compared to the other. Volume of air moved is dependent on motion of diaphram and thoracic volume
