Many women with bacterial vaginosis report noticing a fishy smell coming from their vagina, but others smell a more chemical odor, similar to ammonia. is ammonia smell is normal?

The most common symptom of B.V. is a "fishy" odor from the vagina. Ammonia smells are more common when urine is present around the vulva or inside the vagina.

I would add that odor is very subjective: one person's "fishy" can easily be another's "chemical", "musty" and many more. And strong vaginal odor often is a sign of BV.
