Inability to taste or smell is rather specific to a COVID-19 infection. So, your son likely had COVID-19 and the loss of smell can last quite a while after the infection clears. If you are able to get vaccinated, please do that to protect yourself. If you have any symptoms, get tested. Keep wearing masks, social distancing and frequent hand washing when in public. Stay safe!
