Rare persons (under one in a thousand) are "elite controllers" in whom HIV infection does not progress or cause immune deficiency. No diferent for initial HIV or a second infection (superinfection). In addition, someone with HIV on effective tretment in theory might be superinfected and not have symptoms or change in blood test results. The standard blood tests are positive in these situations.
