" Ella" is a synthetic progestin derivative, and works for contraception by making the endometrial lining of the uterus not receptive to the fertilized egg. It is far from 100% effective for contraception, so if your menses are delayed, wait until 7-10 days after the expected onset of menses, and get a serum HCG test to by certain. Bleeding after "Ella" is common.
