No need to wait: Obviously you should ask the doctor who did the tonsillectomy, or her office. Most likely they'll say there's no need to wait more than a couple of days after surgery. Swallowing alcohol might continue to be painful for a week or two, but probably it won't be harmful (assuming you're not getting seriously drunk).
