Smoking may result in a number of pulmonary conditions. It is very good that he quit. Provide support and check with your local lung association to continue his smoking cessation. Avoid second hand smoke. An oral and pulmonary examination are indicated. PFTs and a chest radiograph may be discussed at the time of the visit. Watch for blood in any mucus expectorated, and if this occurs, the ED.
