A member asked:

I've been on several creams and an antibiotic for rosacea type 2. it's been 8 weeks since starting doxy. no improvement. derm suggested a biopsy. what is the biopsy mostly used for? conditions, medicines? etc?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The biopsy is one of the "gold standard" ways of making a diagnosis. One can examine the disease under a microscope, culture, and testing. We don't do biopsies on things we can treat by looking when the treatment works, but then the treatment fails you need to be sure of the diagnosis, then a biopsy is best.
