The vaccines are given at those time intervals because that is the way they were given while the vaccines were under investigation. They were approved for emergency use. The side effects of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are similar and the way they work are the same. The other ingredients are a little different, which may account for minor differences in the frequency of side effects.
