Many possible reasons: pregnancy, stress (both physical from illness and emotional), a chronic disease, significant weight loss or weight gain, thyroid disease, heavy exercise, other hormonal imbalances, and some women are always irregular. So, if all of the above are ruled out, and someone has always been irregular, it can be normal. Also, many women don't have a period every month.
