2 missed periods: In non-adult females, period irregularities is often due to lack of ovulation. Most older teens have begun ovulation and have regular periods. Missed periods in non-preganant ovulatory teens and adult females may be due to emotional stress or physical stress (e.g. anorexia, excessive exercise, or chronic illness). If 3 consecutive periods are missed, a physical and tests (thyroid, etc.) are needed
