I can't speak for other doctors, but I use acetaminophen of ibuprofen for fever, aches and pains, Afrin nasal spray or Sudafed for runny nose and lots of fluids.

It really depends on your specific symptoms. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen is good for fever, body aches. Antihistamine, Flonase or saline nasal sprays are good for nasal congestion or runny nose. There are throat sprays or cough drops that are good for sore throat/cough. Drinking plenty of fluids helps with lots of symptoms. Flu vaccine to prevent flu is a good idea as well. Good luck!
