See doc: Being short for your age doesn't necessarily mean you have a disease. Your shortness may be relative compared to others, but is still "within normal range" from the medical standpoint. You will need to talk to your doc where you are on the growth chart and see if you are below 5% of your peers. Then it would be considered abnormal and he may suggest work up.

Height is genetic.: Throughout childhood growth is steady and linear. During adolescence there is a quick acceleration called a growth spurt. Timing varies widely and can occur from early adolescence through early adulthood. This pattern and final adult height are similar among family members. Talk with family about their experiences. If still concerned, consult your physician for further evaluation.
