Alcohol/nursing ?'s: Mild ingestion of alcohol while nursing will not get into breast milk in concentrations sufficient to affect a nursing infant. A glass of wine with meals should not cause problems. Ask your OB physician for advice on quantities.

My rule=either/or: My rule is you decide to either be a drinker or a breast feeder. While some providers think light intake is fine, it will end up in the BM and there is no level of alcohol exposure in infants that is considered safe. One of the breakdown products of alcohol is formaldehyde. That's what we use to preserve specimens. The infant brain is sensitive to such toxic exposures.
