Membrane dryness: The most common reason people wake up with some blood tinged mucus in the morning is because of membrane dryness. Small blood vessels called capillaries can break when you’re coughing or throat clearing and that could cause some blood in your saliva or mucus. Proper hydration is key and drinking lots of water throughout the day would be most beneficial to avoid this occurring further.
