A member asked:

Lump around navel. ct scan ruled out hernia but didnt show lump. ultrasound showed lump as asymmetric echogenic structure measuring 1.1 x 0.6 cm with associated shadowing in the subcutaneous tissues. what could this be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

"Navel lump" ?'s: In a male, a "lump" near the navel showing a "asymmetric echogenic structure" may simply represent herniation of peritoneal membrane through a defect which could evolve into a hernia containing bowel if enlarged or after strenuous exercise. This should be followed by a surgical consult if enlargement is noted, to prevent problems from an intestinal hernia.
