A member asked:

If i fully heal from a 3a tear and no longer have fecal incontinence, does it still mean that if i get a stomach bug or diarrhea in the future i'll be incontinent? is that always the case?

Not necessarily: After a 3A tear, the degree to which you experience fecal incontinence depends on the characteristics of your injury and the surgical technique used, but the majority have no problem. There is a risk of urinary retention that you should watch for and constipation is a greater threat than diarrhea. If diarrhea is bad enough anyone can be incontinent & you may or may not be slightly more prone.
