Check with doc: Red eye (on one side) is usually a viral infection but uncommonly can be caused by bacteria or Herpes simplex virus. (The later 2 are more serious) A doctor should look at your eye (in person or virtually) to distinguish between them and order an appropriate medication.

Need in person eval : A single red eye could have a number of causes, namely viral, exposure with dryness, allergy, abrasion, dryness, iritis, scleritis, and last and least infection. Eye infections, bacterial, in healthy adults, who do not wear contacts are rare. Your should stop self medicating and avoid any telehealth evaluation. As a practicing Ophthalmologist , it is impossible to evaluate problem this way.
