A member asked:

Do close comedones become pustules when using retinoids? (in purging phase?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

possible : Retinoids can cause a breakout and worsening of acne in the early stage when they cause shedding of dead skin cells ,removing excess bacteria and dirt in the inner layers of the skin .Sometimes this can be severe ,for a few weeks , causing pustules and red pimples under the skin. Starting the retinoid on alternate days at first , as well as using a combination antibiotic gel can help.
