A member asked:

My wife will be 40 weeks pregnant in two days, she's worried about her health and the baby. if she reaches 40 weeks without giving birth, is it better to induce the baby or opt for a cesarean section?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

General approach: At term many OB's will begin doing "stress tests" which assess the health of the baby/placental unit along with other observations. The favorability of the cervix would suggest induction would be successful. Many would not do a C-section until she reaches 41 wks & failed induction or had a worrisome stress test. I would discuss the issue with her doc.
