A member asked:

Had a biopsy for a vulva lesion. got a call today to be referred to a dermatopathologist and a bunch of words i didnt understand from the results. would they have just said cancer if it was cancer? why would they send me to that kind of specialist?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Specialist is needed: The pathology report from the vulvar biopsy obviously posed a number of questions that the original Pathologist could not determine from the tissue specimen. When that occurs, a referral to a Pathologist who specializes in vulvar skin samples is needed and required. It does not necessarily mean :cancer".
