Itch without rash: Rashes like eczema, urticaria (hives), and just plain dryness can cause itching. If there is no rash, severe generalized itching needs a workup by your doctor as soon as possible. Many different causes like anemia, kidney or liver problems, thyroid disease, diabetes, rheumatologic conditions, autoimmune skin diseases, medications, parasites, even some cancers like lymphoma can cause itching.
