A friend who has hsv2 and has antibodies against further spread to himself touches his sore and without washing his hands touches inanimate objects (both dry and wet). could others be catching hsv2 by touching those objects?

No risk, no worries: HSV2 is never transmitted excpet by sex. No exceptions. Houehold contacts of infected persons never get it (asuming they aren't also sex partners), even after years of sharing toilets, kitchens, towels, etc. No risk at all and nothing to worry about.
