No risk, no worry: There's no need to be "frekaed out", even a little bit. Don't confuse what is possible ("...herpes CAN BE on...thighs and legs") with what is common vs rare. HSV2 outbreaks on the upper legs are rare; and even if your friend has HSV2 involving the thigh, s/he probably had no outbreak at the time. Even wiht an outbreak, transmission from this kind of touching is impossible. Absolutely no worries.
