Not as effective: Because the oral contraceptive pill relies on artificial hormone levels to prevent ovulation, any change in the regular schedule of taking the pill may lessen its effectiveness. A better option if this happens frequently is the Depo Shot which is administered every 3 months or the implant which can last up to 3 years and the hormonal IUD can last 3-5 years.

BCP's: "Yaz Plus" is a low dose oral contraceptive, and should be taken punctually (within the hour of taking the previous "active" pill) to avoid spotting (breakthrough bldg.) The effectiveness will not diminish by taking it "12 hours late" but if spotting occurs, stopping for five days and starting a new pack will generally alleviate the spotting after beginning the next (new) pack.
