Tinea capitis: Tinea capitis is a fungal infection of the scalp. Is caused by same fungus that causes athlete's foot. It can get quite extensive and not infrequently infected by strep or staph bacteria on top of the fungal infection. Either way it will need oral medication - topical antifungals will not work on the scalp. Get into doctor for diagnosis and treatment. Lumps are swollen, reactive lymph nodes.
