A member asked:

I am 12 weeks pregnant. blood tests show low papp-a of 0.27 mom. elected to have nipt for chromosomal abnormalities. what are chances of other risks of low papp-a like miscarriage, low birth weight, prematurity, pre-eclampsia? advised management?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

PAPP-A results ?'s: A PAPP-A level below 0.40 suggests a higher risk of late miscarriage, low birth weight/prematurity. With this result, request a referral to a MFM (maternal fetal medicine) specialist to closely monitor this pregnancy. None of the associated problems may occur, but it is best to have increased monitoring to plan later interventions necessary in this pregnancy.
