One approach: Sometimes they need to be lured into trying feeds. Requiring them to sit with the family while they eat making sure at least one of their favored items is served can sometimes draw them in. I would continue to make fluids available but not make them a separate meal.

Other approach: Offer healthy snacks in between meals and allow your child to select among choices at dinner, use dipping sauces, fun shapes, textures and colors to make meal time more interesting. Review your child's growth chart with your pediatrician. Sources of lean protein, vegetables, fruits and dairy are part of their healthy diet, avoid junk foods.

Tough Love: Agree with Drs. F and D. However, another way to look at it is."When the child gets hungary, s/he will eat" As long as the child is gaining weight normally, let it be. Wish you and the child good health!
