Skin irritation: Transient red coloring of skin is often a reaction to local irritation by a chemical (cream, oil ) or an object like rough clothing: investigate the offending cause and remove it to get a relief. It may also be caused by a bug bite or infection. If the redness persists, it may signal inflammation (dermatitis) that needs to be addressed as you are probably doing with the "dermatitis of your back".
