Get exam: First step is to have a digital rectal exam by your physician. If that is non-diagnostic, would do colonoscopy if several yrs have elapsed since the last one. These days, both direct and virtual studies are available, but the pre-test prep remains similar for both approaches. Discuss options and hopefully, this will be simple and benign.

A GI/ Colorectal Sur: You need to see a colorectal surgeon for a visual, digital, anoscopy and or proctoscopy. This may be a fissure or an abscess. Once the above are ruled out, a colonoscopy may be necessary. Don’t ignore and think it will go away by itself. Be proactive and schedule soon. It will put your mind at ease or at worse get an early diagnosis and initiate treatment.
