A member asked:

I drank alcohol yesterday evening/night from around 2-7pm (11/22/2020)... is it safe to start my antibiotic (bactrim) right now? the time is 9:02 pm (11/23/2020?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Alcohol&Bactrim: If you didn't drink excessively and your need for Bactrim is rather urgent, I think you could start it after 24 hours. However, when you complete your course of Bactrim, I recommend no alcohol for at least 3 days as interactions between alcohol and bactrim can be severe. Your pharmacist can validate this advice for you and I recommend that you check with him/her as well.
