A 21-year-old female asked:

Does the physical act of scratching your scalp repeatedly (itching is caused by hair needing to be washed) cause hair loss or damage?

Itchy scalp: Yes, this could cause hair loss. However, just needing hair washing is not a likely cause of such itching. Good luck. If you also have significant skin flakes in your hair, seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) is a good bet; or something more serious, such as psoriasis -- and many other possibilities. See a dermatologist.
