A member asked:

Due to my prolonged asthmatic symptoms and subsequent lung inflation, the accessory muscles in my neck and chest have been called into action. as this is a sign of reduced oxygen flow, can it impair cognitive ability and induce fatigue?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Status asthmaticus: If you are in the midst of an exacerbation of asthma and are using accessory muscles during the attack and showing hyperinflation, you are having very serious respiratory distress, build up of carbon dioxide and continued symptoms will lead to respiratory fatigue and possible respiratory arrest. You should be hospitalized to get your asthma under control ASAP.
